I’m Dr. Lori Mendenhall, a clinical psychologist at Horizons. I received my degree from the Illinois School of Professional Psychology in Chicago, IL. I typically work with adolescents and adults of any age in individual therapy. I also see couples and families. I have specialized training in child/adolescent therapy and my treatment approach is grounded in Family Systems therapy.
My top priority in working with every client is to establish a comfortable rapport that eventually grows into a trusting relationship. We will work to create an environment that feels safe and promotes open communication. My treatment approach is also collaborative so that together with each individual I focus on identifying his/her unique strengths to create change together. In my experience, trust and collaboration are integral features of effective treatment.
Some of the most common areas addressed in therapy with me include mood disorders, life stage transitions, self-esteem, family and relationship issues, parenting skills, social skills, and school-related concerns. Everyone comes with different concerns and topics for discussion. You are welcome to talk about anything of concern to you.
Although talk therapy may be a new consideration for some, our long-standing success as a practice suggests that it has helped many to find that acceptance of self and personal growth can lead to a happier, more peace-filled life. I welcome you to call with any questions you may have or to make an initial appointment. We are here to help and I think that you will be happy that you reached out.
